Towards the back-end of 2019 we received an email along the lines of "I'm a Hampshire based artist, I have recently designed my own website using Wix, I love the look of the websites you have done." and there began one of the most enjoyable collaborations in web design.
WordPress design, and in this instance of a website redesign is where we excel as web designers. Taking a website that through no fault of the owner simply doesn't do justice to the products and services on offer.
Jess had a Wix website which she had carefully crafted herself, but she soon began to realise that the Wix platform wasn't going to work for her. Having seen some of design dpi's other web design projects, and let's be honest, you can't beat a good recommendation, she got in touch to see if we could help.
We worked with hundreds of lettering and typeface combinations before we chose the elegant handwriting font White Oleander from Nicky Laatz Creations. With it's subtle text imperfections it worked seamlessly with the rest of the web design.
The colour palette for the website was kept to a very minimal aesthetic as we wanted the monochrome artwork to be the main feature and do all of the talking.

The main focus for the WordPress design was for an eCommerce platform that would not only be elegant in displaying the outstanding work of Jess Ridley's pet portraits and wildlife art, but one which would also cut out the middleman, in this instance Wix and Etsy.
Utilising WooCommerce we set about configuring quite a complex set of product options and variations, originals / prints, mounted / unmounted, different sizes. With particular attention being paid to these options and their effect on shipping. As Jess sells many of her pieces overseas, we had to build in some bespoke solutions through country based restrictions and spent quite a bit of time perfecting these by testing them with a VPN from different geolocations.
This WordPress design was built on the SiteOrigin page builder, the responsive grid-based content creation system. We were mindful that Jess would want to update, manage and maintain the site herself so the simple content creation solution was perfect.
Website redesign is where we come into our own, converting our concept designs to a fully functioning eCommerce solution through the use of WordPress design and WooCommerce integration is now the norm. No more PrestaShop that's for sure!
Working closely with Jess over the period of a couple of months, during a global pandemic, was an absolute pleasure. Her amazing talent as an artist, the quality and subjects of her work, made our life designing the website far too easy!
I honestly can’t recommend design dpi enough. I was introduced to David's work through a friend who’s website I loved. David has been so easy to communicate with and has strived to make sure I was happy with every element of the website. He is always available for questions and keen to explain things to me along the way. I am so impressed with his work ethic (especially during a global pandemic!) and I am thrilled with the final result… it ticks every box I had hoped. He has gone above and beyond and also had so much patience with my constant question asking! Highly recommended by me!
